The Alps Vaudoise is where I am based. The village of Leysin is an excellent place to rendez vous as it is very central to all the main alpine resorts and only 2 hours on the train from Geneva airport (3 hours from Zurich).

It does have some great ice climbing in the region. The Cascade Dard on Diablerets is a high mountain major classic giving 4 pitches of ice up the impenetrable cirque. There are also many other quality routes in this cirque.

Lauenen is nestled in a dramatic steep sided limestone valley close to Gstaad and this has some magical icefalls. There are many venues nestled in the cold atmospheric valleys of Vaudoise.

This area is not on the main ice climbing circuit so there is still chance to claim some first ascents.

There are many low lying icefalls of exceptional quality but we do need a good strong freeze for this to appear.

Chalet Ermina is a fanastic B&B Chalet to stay at whilst you stay in Leysin. It is run by Araine who has numerous first ice climbing ascents to her name. She will give you a warm welcome her friendly and relaxed mountain Chalet.
